Fade Away by Harlan Coben (1996)

So this book is not a challenged one; every once in a while you have to break from the purpose. I'm trying to pick up some contemporary fiction so I don't have a blank look on my face when people ask me about books that were written since Voltaire was alive. This is a mystery novel that is about a basketball player with a bum knee that makes a comeback to find an old college rival who has disappeared. The only reason I have continued to read this book past the first two chapters is that I believe the author either watched all the Fletch movies for inspiration, or is just a hilariously bad simile writer. A crime fighting ex-basketball player with a debilitating knee injury that is able to become a martial arts expert, work for the FBI, and drinks copious amounts of Yoo-Hoo? New York Times Bestseller? Wow.

Rabbit Run

I've decided to delve into the Rabbit book series. I've heard these are quite the depressing "want to slit your own throat" type of novel. Should be a good Christmas read.

PEN American Center

Thought I would share this site for the American association of PEN which keeps track of censorship of publications and authors. It boasts of some famous members, such as Arthur Miller and Joseph Heller. They also have several internships and writing workshops for those interested in pursuing a writing career.

And Tango Makes Three by Peter Parnell and Justin Richardson

This is the story of Roy and Silo, two male penguins in the Central Park Zoo who formed a family. This is a children's book aimed at representing non-traditional families and has come under a lot of fire. Those who attempt to ban this book never seem to care that the story is true, or that children that come from non-traditional family structures deserve to have books they can relate to like other children have.
In some libraries here in Florida, this book is shelved in the adult section so that children never have access to it, so if you can't find it in the juvenile section - look for it there.

This book is not about promoting a specific lifestyle, it's about the loving nature of all families. How can that be wrong?

The beginnings of a beautiful friendship...

Ah, what brings more pleasure than rebelling against the establishment? Or reading a really great book? What if you could do both at once, like eating spaghetti in the bathtub? You can? Yes!

I am a library science graduate student...and banned books is my passion! If you promise not to bend the pages, I'll let you take a look at them...
